This project is developing dementia friendly activity for brain health on the Old Oak Estate in East Acton, west London.

The estate is adjacent to Wormwood Scrubs Park, a conservation area with considerable opportunities to engage with nature and travel actively, by walking and cycling. Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, Old Oak Community Centre, Linford Christie stadium will all play their part in intergenerational activities for brain health to encourage community cohesion. If you consider the needs of people living with dementia, you will improve things for everyone.

Co-producing Peer Support for people living with (young onset) dementia and their families & friends, in Old Oak

Are you living with dementia, or know someone who is, and live in the north of Hammersmith & Fulham?

With thanks to the support of Hamunited Charities, For Brian is establishing peer support networks for people living with  dementia of any age, and their families and friends, in this part of the borough where there is no formal support.

Each person living with dementia and their family and friends will be invited to design support and activity for brain health that meets their needs. We will work together to identify the smallest things that would make a significant difference. We will consider ways to help with getting to these activities and if something works for an individual, we will look for ways to ensure the opportunity continues. 

We usually start with a phone call or an informal meeting and offer:

• Confidential consultations to explore options for activity for brain health, whether from our current services and/or in the local community
• Information, advice & introductions to other services as required
• Becoming part of a social enterprise which utilises skills & experience of each individual
• taking part in projects to raise awareness, educate professionals, take part in social research through our membership of the UK wide network of dementia voices (www.dementiavoices.org.uk)
